Firm Fails to Get Nod on iPhone Data Scan

A Firm’s bid to scan all the data in a former staff member’s personal laptop, hard disk and iPhone was turned down by a court. Instead, it ordered the inspection to proceed based on key search words and other rules. Surface Stone had sought a High Court order to retrieve relevant evidence from the devices to shore up its suit against its former sales director, Mr Tay Seng Leon. The High Court instructed both parties, represented by lawyer Chua Beng Chye (of Rajah & Tann LLP) for Stone and Daniel Koh (of Eldan Law LLP) for Mr Tay, to meet on this, appoint a joint computer expert, and revert to the court with the outcome.
